War of the Words

A publication created for the War of the Words typography event which featured a range of talks from typographic designers in a range of different fields, the publication was to be handed out at the event containing articles & interviews from the guest speakers, the publication had to feature a visual style that represented a key aspect of the War of the Words event.

A key theme identified was the clear divide between post-modern & modernist typographic design work shown in the speakers work,  to visualise this discourse I have merged the two styles using a strict modernist grid with the erratic placement of type, image & layout forcing the reader to manipulate the book to read the content.

As the event was focused on talks I wanted to carry this theme through to the static print publication. I created a range of pages which illustrated quotes form speakers using different forms of communication such as sign language or binary.
